Basketball Recap: Jace Kazmierczak's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Poston Butte over Walden Grove + How To Watch

After flying high against Santa Cruz Valley on Saturday, Poston Butte came back down to earth. The Broncos fell just short of the Walden Grove Red Wolves by a score of 60-58 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Broncos have suffered since December 28, 2024.

Poston Butte lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jace Kazmierczak, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 23 points and eight boards. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 46.8% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Villalobos, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.

Walden Grove had a senior duo take command as Mitchel Collins went 8-for-16 en route to 17 points in addition to seven assists and five boards and Alvaro Arvizu shot 50% from the field to rack up 20 points. Collins' big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Malachi KutiGeorge was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Having lost for the first time this season, Poston Butte fell to 4-1. As for Walden Grove, their record now sits at 6-1.

Looking ahead, Poston Butte won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against San Luis at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Walden Grove, they will face off against Desert View at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
