Preview: Bonneville Bees vs. Skyline Grizzlies
The Bonneville Bees will be playing at home against the Skyline Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bonneville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though Bonneville has not done well against Hillcrest recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Bonneville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 69-66 win over Hillcrest. The win was just what Bonneville needed coming off of a 77-51 defeat in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Skyline didn't have too much trouble with Idaho Falls on the road on Wednesday as they won 65-48. Given Skyline's advantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Idaho Falls is ranked 88th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Shay Shippen, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Taya Tews was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals.
Bonneville's win bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Skyline, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5.
Bonneville was taken down by Skyline 70-42 in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Shippen, who dropped a double-double on 36 points and 21 rebounds. Now that Bonneville knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
