Softball Preview: Waldron Mohawks vs. Oldenburg Academy Twisters

The Waldron Mohawks will head out on the road to take on the Oldenburg Academy Twisters at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Waldron is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.

Waldron is hoping to deliver their fans another blowout on Monday, just like they did against South Decatur (and have done all season long). Waldron was the clear victor by a 16-6 margin over South Decatur on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Waldron.

Alyssa Benson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Benson has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. Benson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Shelby Zapfe was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Destiny Hirschauer, who got on base in two of her five plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and a stolen base.

Meanwhile, Oldenburg Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They fell just short of Jac-Cen-Del by a score of 22-21. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (ten), Oldenburg Academy still had to take the loss.

Waldron's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Oldenburg Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

Everything went Waldron's way against Oldenburg Academy in their previous matchup on April 9th as Waldron made off with a 10-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Waldron since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
