After both having extra time off, Stoughton and Mount Horeb will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stoughton has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since September 20.
On Tuesday, Stoughton came up short against Fort Atkinson and fell 3-1.
Stoughton was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Fort Atkinson work for it, especially in the third set. The final score came out to 25-23, 19-25, 27-25, 25-9.
Meanwhile, Mount Horeb got the win against Reedsburg on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Beavers: they've now won five in a row.
The victory didn't come easy: Reedsburg scored at least 19 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-22, 28-26.
Stoughton better keep an eye on Maya Newman. She was instrumental in Mount Horeb's win, getting 15 digs and eight assists. That's the most digs Newman has posted over her last 13 matches. Lizzy Mesenberg also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Mount Horeb was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 17 consecutive contests.
Stoughton's loss dropped their record down to 7-25. As for Mount Horeb, their record now sits at 18-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Stoughton has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Mount Horeb struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Stoughton came up short against Mount Horeb in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 2-0. Can Stoughton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
