Softball Recap: Brownwood's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Brownwood came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 16-6 to the Gatesville Hornets. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Carlee Burks made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

Burks wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Brownwood lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The defeat snapped Brownwood's winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 10-6 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Gatesville, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5-1 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brownwood will challenge Merkel at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. As for Gatesville, they will face off against Franklin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
