Basketball Recap: Elyse Snively Key Part of Team Effort in Eagles Win

It was a Battle of the Birds when Heritage Christian faced off against Guerin Catholic on Saturday. The Eagles snuck past the Golden Eagles with a 40-34 victory. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 48-43 loss the last time these two teams met.

Heritage Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elyse Snively, who shot 56% from the field en route to 14 points. Snively is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Trinity Taylor, who posted six points and 13 boards.

Despite the defeat, Guerin Catholic saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ella Horvath went 5-for-9 on her way to 18 points and five rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Horvath now owns an excellent 47.8% field goal percentage. Cecilia Titus was another key player, putting up five points along with six boards and four steals.

Heritage Christian's record now sits at 4-2. As for Guerin Catholic, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Coming up, Heritage Christian will take on Greenfield-Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 51 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Guerin Catholic, they will face off against Lapel at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
