Basketball Preview: Denver Academy Mustangs vs. Denver Jewish Day Tigers
The Denver Academy Mustangs are on the road again on Monday and plays the Denver Jewish Day Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th. Denver Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 268th, while the Tigers are ranked 86th).
Denver Academy pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Union Colony Prep 59-55.
Denver Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Riley Allen, who scored 20 points, and Nolan Monasch who scored 19 points. That was a full 34.5% of Denver Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Denver Jewish Day's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were outmatched by Bishop Machebeuf on the road and fell 72-37. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Denver Jewish Day has scored all season.
Defeat or not, Denver Jewish Day got some senior leadership from Aaron Daniel and Keenan Winnerman. Daniel almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds, while Winnerman. scored 13 points along with two steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Daniel pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Solly Bielsky, who scored ten points.
Denver Academy now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Denver Jewish Day, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2.
Denver Academy was taken down by the Tigers 70-25 in their previous meeting back in January of 2020. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Denver Academy was down 39-12.
