Baseball Recap: Evergreen Valley Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Piedmont Hills, Evergreen Valley was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Oak Grove Eagles. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

Logan Burton made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Burton wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Liam Wong, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Wong is becoming a predictor of Evergreen Valley's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 4-8 when he doesn't).

Evergreen Valley's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Oak Grove, they dropped their record down to 2-15 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Evergreen Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
