Basketball Recap: Draughn Takes a Loss

Draughn lost against St. Stephens back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Wildcats were dealt a 76-34 loss at the hands of the Indians. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-15.

Despite the defeat, Draughn saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cayden Lewis shot 44% from the field on his way to 18 points and four steals. Lewis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Titus Dodd, who posted six points.

Jachavis Sherrill went supernova For St. Stephens., going 9-for-10 en route to 25 points. Isaac Long was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Draughn's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for St. Stephens, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, Draughn will head out to take on Newton-Conover at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Stephens, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-49 victory against East Burke on the 21st.
