Basketball Recap: Ridge Spring-Monetta Takes a Loss

Ridge Spring-Monetta was the 75-55 winner over Wagener-Salley when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 41-40 to the Wagener-Salley War Eagles. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Briston Matthews, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 16 points and three steals. Those 16 points gave Matthews a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaiden Holloway, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 17 points along with six rebounds and six steals.

Ridge Spring-Monetta's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Wagener-Salley, their victory ended a 14-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7.

Ridge Spring-Monetta won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Batesburg-Leesville at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Wagener-Salley, they will face off against Horse Creek Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wagener-Salley is facing Horse Creek Academy at the right time seeing as Horse Creek Academy is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
