Basketball Recap: Dunellen Comes Up Short

Dunellen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 61-36 to Koinonia Academy. While the Destroyers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating Koinonia Academy 16-12 in the first quarter.

Loss or not, Dunellen got some senior leadership from Jahzara McLaughlin and Sophie Jimenez. McLaughlin posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Jimenez almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 boards. Those 12 boards set a new season-high mark for Jimenez.

Even though they lost, Dunellen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Dunellen's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Koinonia Academy, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.

Dunellen won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against South River at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Koinonia Academy has already played their next contest (against Somerville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
