The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders will take on the East Chapel Hill Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cardinal Gibbons will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.
While Cardinal Gibbons' victory against Enloe wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Crusaders narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Eagles 11-9. Surprisingly, this marked the Crusaders' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Cardinal Gibbons got a massive performance out of Bridget Mazzo, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Katie Scavone was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Cardinal Gibbons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in 12 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when East Chapel Hill faced off against Chapel Hill on Friday. The Wildcats fell 9-6 to the Tigers. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Tigers since on Friday.
Esha Kamath was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Tesla Goldstein, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Cardinal Gibbons pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for East Chapel Hill, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cardinal Gibbons hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .381. However, it's not like East Chapel Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .337. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
