Softball Recap: East Hartford Gets the Win

East Hartford's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Simsbury Trojans by a score of 10-5. For the Hornets, this counts as revenge for the 23-4 win the Trojans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2022.

Izzy Brito spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, East Hartford let Kolbie Cumento and Anira Martinez run wild. Cumento went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Martinez went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave Cumento a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eliana Tena, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

East Hartford's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Simsbury, they now also have a losing record of 1-2.

East Hartford didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 22-5 win against South Windsor on the 16th. Simsbury has also already played their next contest (against Manchester), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
