Softball Recap: Fairfield Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

Fairfield played against Valley on Monday and won via forfeit.

Kaya Lanzon made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Fairfield got a massive performance out of Mariah Giron, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, two RBI, and one double. Those five runs gave Giron a new career-high. Claudia Lucero was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Fairfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .825. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fairfield is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.

Fairfield didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-7 victory against West Campus on the 30th. As for Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 1-0 loss against Armijo on the 30th.
