Softball Game Preview: Rudder Rangers vs. A&M Consolidated Tigers

Rudder is 1-9 against A&M Consolidated since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Rudder Rangers will venture away from home to face off against the A&M Consolidated Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Rudder will be strutting in after a win while A&M Consolidated will be coming in after a defeat.

Rudder is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Hempstead on Friday as Rudder made off with a 17-2 victory. The Rangers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 11 runs or more this season.

Rylee Puente was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). That earned run was her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Destini Mack was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that she stole this season. Another player making a difference was Sophia Moncivais, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Rudder always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .542 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when A&M Consolidated faced off against Lufkin on Friday. A&M Consolidated fell 9-6 to Lufkin. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Rudder has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. A&M Consolidated's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.

Rudder suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to A&M Consolidated in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Rudder avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
