Baseball Recap: Newport Central Catholic Drops Season-High Score on Dayton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newport Central Catholic). They put the hurt on the Dayton Greendevils with a sharp 20-1 win on Monday. The Thoroughbreds haven't had any issues with the Greendevils recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Wyatt Fausz made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Fausz was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ian Mann was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Parker Hurtt, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Newport Central Catholic's record now sits at 18-11. As for Dayton, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newport Central Catholic will take on Covington Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Colonels' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Thoroughbreds' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Dayton, they will head out to square off against Newport at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
