Soccer Game Preview: Washington-Liberty vs. Wakefield

The Washington-Liberty Generals will take on the Wakefield Warriors at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Washington-Liberty's win against Alexandria City wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Generals had just enough and edged out the Titans 2-1. Washington-Liberty haven't had any issues with Alexandria City recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Wakefield made easy work of George C. Marshall on Monday and carried off a 4-1 win. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 3-0.

Wakefield hit George C. Marshall with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Erik Vasquez Ayala (2), Emmanuel Ashley, and Jerry Lopez.

Washington-Liberty pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 20 goals over those five contests. As for Wakefield, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2-2.

Washington-Liberty was able to grind out a solid win over Wakefield when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 2-0. Will the Generals repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
