Volleyball Recap: Maloney Makes It Eight in a Row on the Road

Maloney barely beat Newington the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans put the hurt on the Nor'easters with a sharp 3-0 win on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Nor'easters: they've now won four in a row.

The match was exciting from start to finish, as two sets needed extra rallies to gain a two-point lead. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 25-21, 27-25.

Wesley Colebrook paced Maloney's offense, picking up 27 kills. Colebrook got some help from Galo Cadena and his 38 assists. Colebrook was also solid from the service line: he led the team with three aces.

Maloney's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-0. As for Newington, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5.

Coming up, Maloney will square off against Farmington at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The River Hawks will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Newington, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 win against New Britain on the 8th.
