Preview: Veritas Academy vs. Emery/Weiner
Veritas Academy will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Emery/Weiner at 11:00 a.m. on November 30th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Veritas Academy rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Knights 77-56. Yes, you read that score correctly, and yes, they were playing football.
Meanwhile, Emery/Weiner came tearing into Friday's match with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Giddings Lonestar Southeast 90-41 at home. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Zac Laviage was his usual excellent self, rushing for 310 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per carry, and also catching a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Matthew Newman, who rushed for 83 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries.
Veritas Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Emery/Weiner, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Veritas Academy against Emery/Weiner in their previous matchup back in December of 2020 as the team secured a 70-36 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Veritas Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
