Basketball Preview: Ambridge Bridgers vs. Beaver Bobcats
After two games on the road, Ambridge is heading back home. They will take on the Beaver Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, it was a hard-fought match, but Ambridge had to settle for a 64-62 defeat against the Warriors. While losing is never fun, Ambridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 484th, while the Warriors are ranked 233rd).
Meanwhile, Beaver scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They walked away with a 79-66 victory over Blackhawk. The victory was familiar territory for Beaver who now have three in a row.
Beaver relied on the efforts of Nick Krzeczowski, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds, and Brady Mayo, who scored 22 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Mayo is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. Ty Butler was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Ambridge has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Beaver, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Ambridge didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Bobcats in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 60-56 win. Does Ambridge have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
