Softball Recap: Kaufman Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Kaufman won the last time they faced South Hills and things went their way on Saturday too. The Kaufman Lions came out on top against the South Hills Scorpions by a score of 6-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Abeni Nava made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sadie Waters, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to triples, as she's now hit at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Phillips, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Kaufman pushed their record up to 3-1-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for South Hills, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8-1 record this season.

Kaufman wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 6-4 defeat against Memorial on the 15th. South Hills has also already played their next contest (against MacArthur), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
