Basketball Recap: Veritas Collegiate Academy's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Veritas Collegiate Academy had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 79-71 victory over the Victory Christian Academy Lions. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered an 80-76 loss the last time these two teams met.

Veritas Collegiate Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marcqell Freeman, who shot 63% from the field en route to 31 points and six boards. Freeman is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 17 games he's played. Falcon Green was another key player, going 7-for-13 on his way to 23 points along with six assists and six rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Victory Christian Academy lost, don't look at Gavin Whitaker. Despite the final result, he posted 36 points. That was a full 50.7% of Victory Christian Academy's points, marking the third time in a row Whitaker has earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Carter Herrold, who had 12 points.

Veritas Collegiate Academy's victory bumped their record up to 26-10. As for Victory Christian Academy, they moved to 22-9 with that defeat, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.
