Basketball Game Preview: Smyer Bobcats vs. New Deal Lions

Smyer hasn't had much luck against New Deal recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Smyer Bobcats face off against the New Deal Lions at 6:15 p.m. New Deal took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Smyer, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Smyer needed a bit of extra time to put away Ropes. They secured a 64-59 W over the Eagles. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bobcats.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, New Deal's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a blow against New Home, falling 78-32. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 422nd, while the Leopards are ranked 99th).

Smyer has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for New Deal, their loss dropped their record down to 16-10.

Smyer ended up a good deal behind New Deal in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, losing 58-44. Can Smyer avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
