Basketball Recap: Jordan Crutchfield Key Part of a Team Effort in Panthers Win

There's no place like home for Westwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Somerset College Prep Academy Spartans on Thursday as the Westwood Panthers made off with a 67-46 win. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-18.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westwood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Crutchfield, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds. Crutchfield has become a key player for Westwood: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least ten boards, but 9-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Marquan Burgess, who posted 16 points and four steals.

Westwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Somerset College Prep Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Savas Akini earned 11 points. The dominant performance gave Akini a new career-high in points.

The victory got Westwood back to even at 11-11. As for Somerset College Prep Academy, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-12.

Westwood has already played their next contest, an 82-56 loss against Central on the 24th. As for Somerset College Prep Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-49 defeat against Jupiter Christian on the 24th.
