Los Lunas faced Grants in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Tigers blew past the Pirates 8-0. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

JJ Utash made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Jasiah Byers was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Allen Galaviz, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Los Lunas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Los Lunas' record is now 16-10. As for Grants, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-8.

Los Lunas didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-1 victory against Volcano Vista on the 9th. As for Grants, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 6-5 win against Santa Teresa on the 9th.
