Basketball Recap: Kemontae Nixon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Interlachen over Saint Francis Catholic

If Interlachen was feeling good fresh off their 77-43 takedown of Bell last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Interlachen Rams took a hard 69-54 fall against the Saint Francis Catholic Wolves on Friday. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kemontae Nixon, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards. Nixon has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Dante Astin was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to 14 boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Interlachen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Saint Francis Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from William Collett, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonah Powers, who went 5 of 9 en route to 15 points and seven boards.

Interlachen has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for Saint Francis Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Interlachen will face off against Baldwin on Monday. Interlachen is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. As for Saint Francis Catholic, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Oak Hall at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Saint Francis Catholic has won eight straight at home, while Oak Hall won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
