Basketball Game Preview: Ellwood City Wolverine vs. Freedom Area Bulldogs

Ellwood City has gone 7-1 against Freedom Area recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Ellwood City Wolverine will face off against the Freedom Area Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Ellwood City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.6 points per game this season.

Ellwood City is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Aliquippa on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Ellwood City came up short against Aliquippa, falling 57-31. The Wolverine were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-17.

Aaron Lake put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds. Lake is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Adrian Alvarez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Meanwhile, Freedom Area was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were beaten by Hopewell 65-34.

Ellwood City dropped their record down to 8-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Freedom Area, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.

Ellwood City took their victory against Freedom Area in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 61-36. In that matchup, Ellwood City amassed a halftime lead of 39-16, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
