Softball Recap: Columbia Extends Winning Streak to Three

Columbia entered their tilt with El Campo on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Ricebirds. The result was nothing new for the Roughnecks, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kimber Moraw spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Rylea Dent was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Gracie Raley was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Dent wasn't the only one making solid contact: Columbia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Campo only managed five hits.

Columbia's win bumped their record up to 12-6-1. As for El Campo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-6-1.

Columbia and El Campo should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Roughnecks will face off against Bay City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (226 vs. 593). The timing is sure in Columbia's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while the Blackcats have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, El Campo (ranked 219th) will meet Brazosport (ranked 500th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
