Football Recap: Derby Panthers vs. Maize South Mavericks

Derby put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past the Maize South Mavericks, posting a 51-7 victory at home. The Panthers' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Derby was led to victory by Drew Kemp and Arieus Finley. Kemp rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns, while Finley rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Kemp got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 70 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Da?Saahn Brame, who picked up 53 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Derby was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 358 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Derby will face off against Bishop Carroll at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Derby knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Bishop Carroll likes a good challenge. As for Maize South, they will take on Hutchinson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hutchinson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 28.1 points per game this season.
