Soccer Game Preview: Columbus vs. Downtown Doral

The Columbus Explorers will take on the Downtown Doral Dolphins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Downtown Doral better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Columbus really get things going. Columbus' defense stepped up to hand Somerset Academy a 3-0 shutout on Friday.

Jorge Gonzalez-Tello and Santiago Montoya scored all three of Columbus' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 15 goals.

Meanwhile, Downtown Doral's game on Friday was all tied up 0-0 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Reagan 1-0. Given the Dolphins' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Bison are ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Downtown Doral's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those four contests. As for Columbus, their win bumped their record up to 8-6-4.
