Football Recap: Dallas Christian Comes Up Short

Dallas Christian fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Pittsburg on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 23-20. The Chargers gained 149 more yards on the day, but it was the Pirates that made the best use of them.

Luke Syvrud threw for 37 yards on three of five attempts. Dylan Belt was his top target, picking up 113 receiving yards and one TD. On the ground, Dj Stanley rushed for 129 yards.

A big part of Pittsburg's win came down to the chemistry between Kord Johnson and his top target Seven Duffey. Johnson rushed for 61 yards and a pair of scores while Duffey rushed for 95 yards and one touchdown. Duffey really tore up the turf during one magnificent 95-yard run.

Dallas Christian now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Pittsburg, their record now sits at 4-1.

Looking ahead, after each having a week off, Dallas Christian and Bishop Gorman will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. The Chargers will be up against the Crusaders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 35.2 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Pittsburg, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Gilmer at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. The Pirates are facing the Buckeyes at the right time seeing as the Buckeyes are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
