Softball Game Preview: Steeleville Warriors vs. Red Bud Musketeers

The Steeleville Warriors will venture away from home to square off against the Red Bud Musketeers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Steeleville comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Last Saturday, Steeleville came up short against Herrin and fell 7-3.

Steeleville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Karsen Wedemeyer, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Shaylee Ayers also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Red Bud earned a 6-3 victory over Dupo on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Musketeers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

Olivia Geralds made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Peyton Kreher was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julia Whelan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Red Bud's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Steeleville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Steeleville suffered a grim 28-0 defeat to Red Bud in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
