Basketball Recap: Christopher Stoddart Key Part of a Team Effort in Mustangs Win

On Monday, the Mitchell Mustangs beat the Strawberry Crest Chargers 84-75. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Mitchell got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Christopher Stoddart out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Stoddart is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Fillipe Frangie was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

Mitchell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 13 consecutive matchups.

Strawberry Crest lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cameron Crowe, who went 12 for 25 on his way to 27 points along with five assists and five boards. That's the most assists Crowe has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Hall, who went 7 of 13 en route to 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Mitchell pushed their record up to 12-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.5 points per game. As for Strawberry Crest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-12.

Mitchell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 77-74 defeat against Sunlake on the 28th. Strawberry Crest has also already played their next game, a 62-58 victory against Steinbrenner on the 29th.
