Preview: Bear Creek Bears vs. Erie Tigers
The Bear Creek Bears will be playing at home against the Erie Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Bear Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
After only 25 points in their last match, Bear Creek made sure to put some points up on the board against Adams City. Bear Creek claimed a resounding 63-31 victory over Adams City at home. With that victory, Bear Creek brought their scoring average up to 52.7 points per game.
Bear Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rachel Vasey led the charge by scoring 15 points along with 8 rebounds. Vasey is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Samantha Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 6 steals and 5 assists.
Meanwhile, Erie faced Mead in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Erie fell 55-44 to Mead on Saturday. Erie's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Despite their loss, Erie saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Maddie Hartel, who scored 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. Hartel scored a full 27.3% of Erie's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliet Slater, who scored 12 points.
Bear Creek now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Erie, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-1.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Bear Creek hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 52.7 points per game. However, it's not like Erie struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 50 per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run up the score up higher Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
