Baseball Recap: Friday's Win Is O'connor's Fourth in Last Five Outings

O'Connor owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They came out on top against the Holmes Huskies by a score of 5-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-1 last Tuesday.

Ryan Mason made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting no hits from his an at bat.

In other batting news, Jayden Contreras was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of O'Connor's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Cali-Evan Billela, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

O'Connor has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Holmes, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. O'Connor will face off against rival Stevens at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Holmes is set to challenge their familiar foe Marshall at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
