Basketball Recap: Bethune Takes a Loss

Bethune was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost to the Lone Star Longhorns at home by a 50-31 margin. If the Bobcats were looking for revenge after losing 50-13 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Loss or not, Bethune got some senior leadership from Jamie Strobel and Madilyn Powell. Strobel dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 boards, while Powell posted 11 points and eight rebounds. That's the most boards Powell has posted since back in January of 2024.

It was another big night for Jade Kuntz, who went 8 of 18 to rack up 16 points along with eight assists and three steals for Lone Star. Kuntz is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Peytyn Kuntz, who scored nine points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Bethune now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Lone Star, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-7.

Bethune has already played their next contest, a 77-51 defeat against South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] on the 10th. As for Lone Star, they will host Otis at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
