Basketball Recap: Owen Valley Drops Season-High Score on Monrovia

Owen Valley scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They lost to the Monrovia Bulldogs at home by a 60-45 margin. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Owen Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Donavin Newby posted 17 points and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Newby. Rhet Heckman was another key player, putting up six points.

Hudson McCloud went supernova for Monrovia, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards. Those 11 rebounds gave McCloud a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Clay Tharp, who had 12 points in addition to seven assists and six boards.

Owen Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Monrovia, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Owen Valley and Clay City will round out the year against one another at at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Monrovia, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 63-53 defeat against Martinsville on the 21st.
