The Monroeville Eagles will face off against the Crestline Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Monroeville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Monroeville made up a huge gap compared to their last game against St. Joseph Central Catholic, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Eagles never let the Crimson Streaks get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Thursday. Considering the Eagles have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Colt Clark was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Clark was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, Reid Wasserman and Hudson Bauer did most of the damage at the plate: Wasserman scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Bauer scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Landin Hershiser also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Monroeville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Crestline was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Lucas, falling 12-0.
Crestline saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Finn Belcick, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Crestline's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Monroeville, their record is now 4-2.
Crestline's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Monroeville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .468. It's a different story for Crestline, though, as they've only averaged .356. Will they be able to contain Monroeville's hitters?
Monroeville couldn't quite get it done against Crestline when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-5. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
