Basketball Recap: Tampa Catholic Snags Ninth Victory in Last 12 Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Tampa Catholic walked away with it. They walked away with a 55-48 victory over the Lakewood Spartans on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Crusaders.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tampa Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ashley Knox, who posted 19 points. Knox's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Kimora Green was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Despite the loss, Lakewood still got an impressive performance from Alahni Lovett, who scored 16 points in addition to seven steals and five assists. Lovett has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sumayah McIntosh, who went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points and seven rebounds.

Tampa Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Lakewood, their loss dropped their record down to 17-8.

Tampa Catholic will head out to square off against Cardinal Mooney at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Cardinal Mooney's favor as the team sits on nine straight wins at home while Tampa Catholic has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Lakewood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
