Baseball Recap: Hudson's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Hudson dropped their record down to 9-2 on Saturday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Hoover Vikings, falling 7-1. The Explorers were not able to make up for their loss to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.

As for Hoover, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

For Hoover's part, Gavin McCune looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. McCune has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jack Andes was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Hoover is undefeated when Andes posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Ryan Wilkinson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Hudson will venture away from home to take on Mayfield at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hoover, they will host Jackson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 2.1, the Polar Bears 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
