Softball Game Preview: Durham Academy Cavaliers vs. Ravenscroft Ravens

The Durham Academy Cavaliers will take on the Ravenscroft Ravens at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Durham Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

Durham Academy took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Neuse Christian Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cavaliers had just enough and edged out the Lions 8-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cavaliers.

Stella Teis made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Durham Academy let Claire Lynch and Whitney Wiles run wild. Lynch scored a run and stole three bases while going 4-for-4, while Wiles scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave Lynch a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emerson Windram, who scored two runs and stole three bases.

Durham Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Ravenscroft's offense. They lost 14-0 to GRACE Christian on Tuesday. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Ravens were not able to get on the board.

Durham Academy now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Ravenscroft, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Durham Academy suffered a grim 23-12 defeat to Ravenscroft in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Cavaliers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
