The Valley Christian Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Florence Gophers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Valley Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Valley Christian's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Crismon with a sharp 7-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
Not much got past Makay Fraley, who gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Crismon off the board. Fraley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maddy Harmon, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Abrielle Jarles was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Valley Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.
Florence hadn't beaten Coolidge on the road since April 5, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Gophers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bears, sneaking past 13-12. That's two games straight that the Gophers have won by just one run.
Jocelyn Burris was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run and five RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Harlie Hall, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Valley Christian's win was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-3-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Florence, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-14 record this season.
Florence's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Valley Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Florence, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Valley Christian keep running through batters, or will the Gophers buck the trend?
Valley Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Florence when the teams last played on April 3rd, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
