Baseball Game Preview: Clearfield Falcons vs. Malad Dragons

The Clearfield Falcons will challenge the Malad Dragons at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Clearfield took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Green Canyon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Falcons narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Wolves 3-1. The win was some much needed relief for the Falcons as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Drew Bremer was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Colt Chambers, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Malad, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Declo get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Wednesday.

Malad also got a great performance from Brycen Howe as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave Howe a new career-high.

At the plate, Malad let Cale Briggs and Carter Blaisdell run wild. Briggs scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Blaisdell went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Briggs has become a key player for Malad: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Carey, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Malad's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Clearfield, their win bumped their record up to 2-6.
