Softball Preview: Woodland Wolverines vs. Barnwell Warhorses
Woodland is 1-7 against Barnwell since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Woodland Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Barnwell Warhorses at 6:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Woodland sitting on three straight wins and Barnwell on nine.
Woodland put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. Everything went their way against Battery Creek as Woodland made off with a 12-1 victory.
Josie Mitchum was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (she also didn't allow any walks). Mitchum was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Dallas LaChance was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Jordan Mccarthy was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Barnwell was able to grind out a solid win over Wagener-Salley last Tuesday, taking the game 5-2.
Like Woodland, Barnwell also got a great game from a two-way player: Jaidyn Devore. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Devore was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Abigail Corley was excellent, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and a double. Another player making a difference was Laney Grubbs, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Woodland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Barnwell, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1.
