Basketball Recap: St. Charles Skates Past Coleman with Ease

A well-balanced attack led St. Charles over Coleman in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the St. Charles Bulldogs blew the Coleman Comets out of the water with a 60-26 final score. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while the Comets are ranked 634th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Charles to victory, but perhaps none more so than Allison Zelinko, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Zelinko is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Nicole Zelinko, who went 7 for 13 en route to 18 points and three steals.

St. Charles was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coleman only posted eight assists.

When it comes to explaining why Coleman lost, don't look at Emily VanSickle. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave VanSickle a new career-high in steals (five). Klaira Sysak was another key player, putting up three points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

St. Charles' record is now 7-1. As for Coleman, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

St. Charles didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-47 loss against Michigan Lutheran Seminary on the 20th. Coleman has also already played their next game, a 48-35 defeat against Pinconning on the 20th.
