Basketball Game Preview: Houston County Fighting Irish vs. Perry County Vikings

The Houston County Fighting Irish will challenge the Perry County Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Perry County took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Houston County, who comes in off a win.

Last Tuesday, Houston County didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Waverly Central, but they still walked away with a 61-55 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Fighting Irish.

Meanwhile, Perry County was not able to break out of their rough patch last Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 73-29 loss at the hands of Santa Fe. The contest marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Perry County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kenner Haston posted seven points. Another player making a difference was Landon Warren, who earned five points and seven rebounds.

Houston County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points per game. As for Perry County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Everything went Houston County's way against Perry County when the teams last played back in February, as Houston County made off with a 65-43 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Perry County's Colton Pevahouse, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
