The Bellefonte Raiders will take on the Somerset Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Bellefonte is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Bellefonte came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Hollidaysburg, falling 16-9.
Bellefonte got a massive performance out of Oliver Thornburg, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that Thornburg has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Zach Lehman, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Somerset entered their tilt with Central Cambria on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 11-1 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Braeden Flower spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Somerset let Callen Miller and Zane Hagans run wild. Miller went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Hagans got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Hagans a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Means, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Somerset always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Cambria only posted an OBP of .143.
Bellefonte's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Somerset, their victory bumped their record up to 13-1.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bellefonte hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Somerset struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bellefonte took their win against Somerset when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
