Baseball Recap: Cathedral Snags 11th Win in Last 14 Games

With a playoff win on the line, Cathedral rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Purdue Polytechnic Techies. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Irish, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Ethan Dorsey looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Cathedral got a massive performance out of Landon Hughes, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Hughes has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Connor Christiansen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cathedral always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purdue Polytechnic only posted an OBP of .150.

Cathedral has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Purdue Polytechnic, their loss dropped their record down to 14-8.

Looking ahead, Cathedral will take on Herron at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Fighting Irish's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Achaeans have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. Purdue Polytechnic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
