Basketball Recap: North Johnston Drops Highest Score of Season Against Wake Prep Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Johnston). They blew past the Wake Prep Academy Guardians 62-37 on Thursday. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 25 points or more this season.

Leading North Johnston to victory were Camden Ford and Amiyah Grimes. Ford dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards, while Grimes went 10 of 16 on her way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. With that strong performance, Ford is now averaging an impressive 2.4 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Sheetz, who posted seven points and six rebounds.

North Johnston was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Wake Prep Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Journey Johnson, who put up 11 points along with six boards and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Peed, who posted 11 points.

North Johnston's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points per game. As for Wake Prep Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3.

North Johnston didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-53 victory against Neuse Charter on the 27th. After both having extra time off, Wake Prep Academy and Raleigh Charter will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
