Basketball Recap: Goreville Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Lydia Kwiatkowski and Emily Kacinski

Goreville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 49-34 bruising from the Carterville Lions. The Blackcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Goreville's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Emily Kacinski, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, and Lydia Kwiatkowski, who posted 14 points and six boards. Kacinski continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carterville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Adie Sykes, who scored 12 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Rogers, who put up 11 points.

Goreville's loss dropped their record down to 2-23. As for Carterville, their victory bumped their record up to 10-19.

Goreville has already played their next match, a 45-21 defeat against Christopher on the 13th. Carterville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
